Take a flying leap:

Roman Nose Mountain/blueridge1.jpg

To the west-northwest from the top of the mountain runs Snaggy Mountain, a neighboring Allegheny Plateau. It's not the closest one, though - in the opposite direction is Hoop Pole Ridge, and in between is a protected wetland called the Hammel Glade. Between Roman Nose Mountain and Snaggy Mountain lies Swallow Falls State Forest and the Youghigeny River.

Roman Nose Mountain itself is only a section of an elongated plateau, which also includes Roman Nose Hill and Meadow Mountain to the northeast. The long plateau is divided from north to south by Deep Creek Lake. There's a topo map you can look at to get the lay of the land, but it's pretty big, and could take a while to load. The red X marks the spot!

Part of Meadow Mountain is in a Maryland State Park, and is one of my favorite hikes. I have photos of it in another album.
